Partners in Peacemaking

Throughout its 144-year history, Seattle First Baptist has championed the cause of peace and social justice, from its early friendship with the indigenous inhabitants to its denunciation of the Japanese internment during World War II, questioning of our military involvement in Vietnam and Iraq, and current advocacy for equal rights of the homeless, the mentally ill, the GLBT population and the Duwamish tribe.

Partners in Peacemaking is a committed group of volunteers, including both congregational and interested community members, dedicated to promote these historic ideals, both at home and abroad, through the dual avenues of education and public action.

Partners in Peacemaking Mission Statement

As Seattle First Baptist Partners in Peacemaking

We seek, in the service of peace and justice
to educate and advocate,
to organize and mobilize,
to cooperate and collaborate,
to learn from others' perspectives and share our perspectives with others.

As members of the community of faith
with those in the Seattle First Baptist congregation who are witnesses for peace today,
with those who have witnessed for it in the past and those who will witness for it in the future,
the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America,
our denomination,
Baptists around the world,
the Church Council of Greater Seattle and the faith community in Seattle and beyond,
the national and international organizations that serve the cause of peace and justice,
the victims of violence-our own and others'-whoever and wherever they may be.

In active non-violence
illustrated by Jesus,
to find alternative solutions to the conflicts we face individually, locally and globally.
