Web Site Help

Quick Help Topics:

The SFBC web site was designed using the latest Microsoft Web Server technology running at our external ISP (Internet Service Provider) that hosts this site. The majority of the site is written in ASP.NET, however, many of the advanced features of the site are implemented by the use of Java, JavaScript, Flash, Silversight, or other certified browser plug-ins.

The SFBC web site is both an internet web site with most pages available to everyone and a password protected extranet web site, containing a few special sections available only to registered SFBC web site accounts. If you are a "Regular Attendee" or "Member" of the Seattle First Baptist Church, you are encouraged to register with this site for an account to have access to these special sections.

Minimum Browser Revision Level

It is important to periodically upgrade your Internet Browser Software and various Internet Browser Plugins such as a Document Reader and an Audio / Video Player software to enjoy the best that this site has to offer. This is a recommendation not only for this site but for all Internet Sites that you view.

Internet Technology advances at an incredible rate and web designers typically design and maintain sites to the current minimum design standards and practices, therefore if you do not update your software, you may experience problems rendering a site correctly that uses advanced features.

This site uses "Active Client Side Scripting" or JavaScript to perform all of the menu navigation functions, therefore browsers with JavaScript disabled will not be able to use the menu bar to move from page to page. The reason why JavaScript was used as opposed to simple static links is because of the dynamic nature of this site which changes day to day, hour after hour to provide you with appropriate and up-to-date information.

To enable Active Scripting, you will need to set your browser's Internet Options by performing the following tasks.

Internet Explorer Users:

  • Move your mouse to your browser's tool bar and select [Tools] | [Internet Options] then click on the [Security Tab].
  • Under the title, "Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings", choose Internet.
  • Under the title, "Security level for this zone", click on [Default Level]
  • Move the slider to the [Medium] setting or to [Medium-Low] if you do not want to see annoying prompts. Both are safe for the Internet Zone.
  • If you selected [Medium-Low], you will see a security warning popup that says, "The recommended security level for this zone is "Medium". The security level you have choosen is lower than this. Are you sure you want to change the security level?
  • Medium-Low Security is the same as Medium, except for prompts are displayed that ask you if you want to allow the execution of downloadable "signed" controls or scripts. In 99% of the prompts, you will most likely say [yes] so my preference would be to select this security level.
  • Click on the [Apply] button to apply the new security settings to your browser.
  • Click on [OK] to close the Internet Options window.
  • Click here to refresh this page. In doing so, if you correctly followed the above directions, this portion of the help page will no longer appear and will be replaced with a new section that will help you determe your current Internet Browser configuration and recommended upgrades. In addition, the menu bar will appear and be functional.

Netscape Users:

  • Move your mouse to your browser's tool bar and select [Edit] | [Preferences] then click on the diamond to the left of [Advanced].
  • Click on [Scripts & Plugins]
  • Under the title, "Enable JavaScript for", ensure that the checkbox is checked for Navigator.
  • Click on [OK] to close the Netscape Preferences window.
  • Click here to refresh this page. In doing so, if you correctly followed the above directions, this portion of the help page will no longer appear and will be replaced with a new section that will help you determe your current Internet Browser configuration and recommended upgrades. In addition, the menu bar will appear and be functional.
